Slovakian Mountain is another well-rounded, strong and sweet tasting garlic. The paper is pink and purple with brown and white skin on the cloves. The cloves are extra small to medium size in each bulb, with 6-9 cloves per bulb and are easier to peel than porcelain varieties due to their looser skin. This variety does not store as well as our porcelains, with a storage life of 4-6 months. This variety is doing better in the field for us but it is not an easy garlic to grow. If you are a beginner gardener looking to plant garlic for the first time we recommend Ray's Porcelain, Yugoslavian, Creme de la Rasa, or Red Russian.
